The Investment

Hiring a photographer is just that — an investment. Not just in beautiful images, but in an experience that actually feels good from start to finish.

Here's the thing: the best photos don't come from posing people perfectly or rushing through a checklist. They come from connection. From a genuine laugh. From a moment where everyone forgets there's even a camera there. That's what I show up to create every single time.

I meet people where they are — literally and figuratively. Whether you're a family that's a little chaotic and loud (the best kind), a senior who feels awkward in front of a camera, or a mom who just wants everyone to cooperate for five minutes — I get it. I've been there. As a mom myself, I understand the particular magic and madness of kids in a way that genuinely shapes how I work. I know that a four-year-old's attention span is approximately eleven seconds. I know that sometimes the best shot happens when nobody is trying. I know how to read the room, slow things down, bring the energy up, or just get silly when that's what the moment calls for.

I'm calm. I genuinely love what I do. And I truly believe that laughter is one of the most important tools I bring to every session.

What that means for you is that your images won't just show what you look like — they'll show what your life feels like. The warmth, the humor, the tenderness, the beautiful mess of it all. That's not something that happens by accident. It comes from someone who has spent years studying light, composition, and the art of the human moment — and yes, I do have a degree in Fine Art and Photography. But honestly, the technical training only matters because it's in service of something deeper: helping you walk away with images that stop you in your tracks years from now and take you right back to that afternoon.

Working with a photographer who has both the artistic eye and the genuine ability to make people feel at ease is worth every penny — not because I'm telling you so, but because you'll feel the difference the moment we start and see it in every single image we make together.

Frequently Asked Questions

How far in advance should I book? Family and senior sessions book up quickly, especially in the fall — my busiest season. I'd recommend reaching out at least 6–8 weeks in advance to secure your preferred date. That said, if you have a last-minute need don't hesitate to reach out — I always do my best to make things work!

What if my kids won't cooperate? Honestly? This is my specialty. I've photographed enough kids to know that "uncooperative" usually just means they need a few minutes to warm up, a reason to laugh, or someone willing to be equally ridiculous alongside them. I've never met a kid I couldn't connect with. Trust the process — the real moments are almost always the best ones anyway.

What should we wear? I'll send you a detailed style guide after you book, but the short version is: wear what feels like you. Coordinated doesn't mean matching — think complementary colors and textures rather than identical outfits. Avoid busy logos and patterns that date quickly. Most importantly, wear something you feel good in. Confidence shows up in photos.

Where do sessions take place? Anywhere that feels meaningful to you! I love shooting in and around Chapel Hill, Carrboro, Durham, and Hillsborough — favorite spots include Coker Arboretum, Carolina North Forest, downtown Carrboro, and UNC campus. In-home sessions are also one of my absolute favorites. If you have a special location in mind, let's talk about it.

What if the weather is bad? A little golden overcast light is actually a photographer's best friend! For rain or severe weather, we'll reschedule at no charge. I keep a short waitlist for exactly this reason so we can get you rebooked quickly.

How long until I get my photos? You can expect your fully edited online gallery within 3–4 weeks of your session. I put real care and attention into the editing process — I want every image to be something you'll treasure, not just something that looks good on a screen.

How many photos will I receive? It varies by session length and what unfolds on the day, but most family sessions include 50–75 fully edited images. Quality over quantity is always my approach — I'd rather give you 60 images you absolutely love than 200 that are just okay.

Do you offer prints or albums? Yes! In addition to your digital gallery, I can help you create beautiful prints, wall art, and albums. There's something about holding a printed photo that a screen just can't replicate — I'm happy to guide you through those options after your session.

What is your payment and cancellation policy? A retainer is required to hold your date, with the remainder due before your session. Life happens — if you need to reschedule I'm always happy to work with you. Please reach out as soon as possible so we can find a new date that works.

I'm nervous about being in front of the camera. Help! You are not alone — this is one of the most common things I hear. My entire approach is built around making people feel at ease, not performing. We'll move slowly, I'll guide you gently, and I promise by the end of your session you'll have forgotten to be nervous. The photos always surprise people who thought they were "bad" at this.
